METRO wall tiles
The faceted wall tiles were once designed by Hector Guimard, one of the most important French Art Nouveau artists. They have been a symbol of the Paris metro since its opening in 1900. METRO tiles create a unique combination of tradition and modernity. Whether in the bathroom or kitchen area, in a trendy café or spacious loft - the small-format METRO tiles can be used to design walls in a very special way.

Glazes
- Glossy glazes in 15 different standard colours - opaque or semi-transparent
- Matt glazes, opaque, in the colours white and black
- Metallic glazes in 6 different colours (on request)
- Special colour glazes, opaque, in 6 different colours (on request)
Laying instructions
METRO tiles are usually laid in staggered rows. In order to achieve an attractive edge pattern, it is recommended to use a square tile in every second row at the side ends (otherwise open cut edges would result). There are 2 different optional border tiles for the upper edge and skirting tiles in the respective colours for the lower edge. Internal or external corners are available for corner tiling.Suitability
The glazed stoneware wall tiles are suitable for all indoor areas. Use in covered outdoor areas is only recommended to a limited extent, as they are not frost-resistant when exposed to moisture. We recommend opaque glazes for wet areas. Crackled tiles should be impregnated.
Mounting and care
-
Laying
All tiling work must be carried out by a tiler who is familiar with the specific material properties. We accept no liability for improper workmanship. The tiles can be laid using standard tile adhesive. A joint width of 2 mm is recommended. The narrower the joint, the more attractive the overall effect of the surface. Cutting
- Wet cut with a diamond blade for glazed tiles - either immediately to the nominal size or 1 mm from the nominal edge, then grind to zero with the grindstone
- Tear dry and break
Grouting
Choose a grout colour that is as neutral as possible. With heavily pigmented grouts and craquelured tiles (fine glaze cracks), pigments may otherwise be absorbed. To avoid this, the tiles can be pre-wetted with a sponge before grouting or impregnated with FILA MP/90 before grouting. It is advisable to test this on your test surface in advance.Impregnation
If craquelured tiles are used in the kitchen area, they should be sealed with FILA MP/90 to prevent grease from being absorbed. The use of craquelé tiles near the cooker is not recommended. As the craquelure continues to form in the first year, the impregnation must be repeated occasionally. Sealing is also recommended in wet areas. This makes the surface less sensitive to soiling.Cleaning
A glaze is a coating made of glass. Glazes are not scratch or acid resistant. When cleaning, please do not use scratching objects such as steel sponges or scrapers. Copper-based glazes (greenish or bluish glazes) can become permanently discoloured by acidic cleaning agents. We recommend PH-neutral to alkaline cleaners such as Lithofin KF Basic Cleaner or Meister Propper General Cleaner or similar for cleaning. Limescale stains are softened by alkaline cleaners and removed with a brush. In stubborn cases, you can also use a dirt eraser (melamine sponge). Please never treat tiles with metallic surfaces with abrasive cleaning agents.
