General product information
-
Even if the name of the OLD ENGLAND tile series suggests otherwise - these classic porcelain stoneware tiles come from the classic country of tile production, Italy.
Two-coloured ornamented, small inserts and matching border tiles define the character of the floor and structure the floor surface in a simple and elegant way.
Matching plain-coloured tiles and skirting tiles are used to complement the border area.

Manufacturing process
High-quality white clay and natural oxides are prepared in a complex process, pressed under high pressure and fired at a very high temperature of 1250°. The result is a homogeneous, solid-coloured, fully sintered ceramic product with extremely low water absorption. Before firing, the surface is coated with a transparent protective glaze, which is inseparably bonded to the ceramic body during firing. Colour nuances and calibration
Due to the production process, the tiles may have a slightly different colour shade and a different calibre in each production run. When ordering, please indicate whether a modular installation is planned so that the right calibre and colour nuances can be selected for your installation purposes. Any slight differences in calibre can be compensated for with a joint width of 2-3 mm.
Mounting and care

Laying
We recommend laying out a few tiles before installation to test the overall effect. To achieve a harmonious overall appearance, mix tiles from different packages together when laying. For laying using the thin-bed method, we recommend a hydraulically hardening, plastic-modified thin-bed mortar (flexible adhesive) in accordance with EN 12004, e.g. MAPEI Keraflex Maxi. A joint width of 2-3 mm is recommended. Please observe the curing times of 48-72 hours before the floor can be walked on again.
All installation work should be carried out by a specialist. We accept no liability for improper installation and processing.
Grouting
We recommend using a flexible grout in accordance with EN 13888, e.g. MAPEI Ultracolor or a cementitious grout without additives. It is advisable to choose the grout colour in the same shade as the tile colour. Take care when using dark-coloured grouts! These grouts contain very strong colour pigments that are extremely difficult to remove from the tile surface. Special care must therefore be taken when using grouts that differ greatly from the tile colour. To prevent possible discolouration of the tile covering during grouting, it is recommended that the covering is treated with a grouting aid (e.g. FILA PRW 200) or impregnated (e.g. FILA MP90) before grouting. The application instructions of the respective product manufacturer must be observed. If in doubt, carry out a test area with the selected product.Final cleaning
Before handing over the tile covering, a final cleaning with a cement residue remover (e.g. FILA Deterdek) should generally be carried out. Before applying the cement residue remover, the joints should be pre-wetted with water to protect them from corrosion caused by the acid contained in the cleaner. The careful design of the final cleaning is of decisive importance for the appearance and subsequent cleaning properties of the tile covering. Over 90% of complaints about porcelain stoneware floor coverings result from final cleaning that has not been carried out thoroughly or at all. Do not wait too long before carrying out the final cleaning, as this is only possible after two weeks with a great deal of effort. Do not design the final cleaning when the temperature of the tiles is high. Therefore, use the coolest times of day for final cleaning in summer.Impregnation
The tiles are provided with a transparent protective coating at the factory, but impregnating the tiles (e.g. FILA MP90) after final cleaning or before grouting (instead of grouting aid) is not a mistake.Maintenance cleaning and care
Professional maintenance cleaning will keep the tile covering looking good for a long time. A wide range of special porcelain stoneware cleaning agents are available on the market for cleaning and maintaining porcelain stoneware. Neutral cleaners (e.g. FILA Cleaner) are suitable for normal maintenance cleaning. Avoid using extremely abrasive cleaning tools (e.g. scouring sponge, pot scraper, steel sponge). Under no circumstances should cleaning agents containing wax, regreasing agents or lubricating soap be used. These build up layers that bind the dirt and make the flooring look unsightly after a short time. In the case of heavy dirt or partially textured surfaces, use an alkaline cleaner and then wipe the cleaned surfaces well with clear water. We hope you enjoy your new floor!
