General product information
-
Chalk is a soft lime sedimentary rock that has been used as a coloured whitewash for centuries. A broad band of chalk stretches across Europe from Champagne to the island of Rügen. Chalk mining began on Rügen at the beginning of the 19th century. Chalk became the most popular and best-known paint material in the former GDR.
Our chalk paint has a high chalk and pigment content. The resulting velvety, powdery matt surface and intense depth of colour create a warm room atmosphere. With its characteristic matt finish, the colour gives the room a very special depth effect.

Processing and consumption
Chalk paint is a ready-to-use colour. It is easy to apply with a paint roller or brush. It can also be diluted with water as required (max. 10% for highly absorbent substrates). The colour has good coverage, one coat is usually sufficient. However, the typical powdery matt chalk effect is often only achieved with a second coat. Dark and colour-intensive shades definitely require two coats. One tin of 2500 ml is sufficient for approx. 15-20 square metres with a single coat.
The painting utensils can simply be washed out with water. The colour can be used for a further 6 months if well sealed.
Suitability and substrates
Chalk paint is a colour for interior walls and ceilings. In the kitchen and bathroom, please note that it should not be used in areas that are in direct or constant contact with water or water vapour (shower, washbasin, etc.).The colour is suitable for new and old stable substrates. It can be used on interior plaster (including clay plaster), plaster, paper wallpaper or matt old emulsion-based paints.
Ingredients
Chalk paint is a dispersion-based colour consisting of chalk, water and natural pigments. Only natural raw materials are used. The colour is free from additives containing plastics.Characteristics
Chalk paint has several excellent properties:- ready to use and easy to apply
- quick-drying and low-odour
- permeable or "breathable" - for a good indoor climate
- ecologically safe
- washable after just 14 days
How to use
Depending on the substrate, careful preparation is crucial to achieve a beautiful result:For mineral substrates such as plaster, concrete, cement mosaic tiles or stone, make sure to carefully fill cracks and holes. The substrate should be dry and free of dust and grease. Any priming depends on the condition of the wall. It may be sufficient to dilute the first coat of paint slightly with water.
Existing coats of paint can simply be painted over without any problems.
Painting over wallpaper, including textured wallpaper, is also possible with chalk paint.
Colours and colour samples
We offer chalk paints in 76 different shades and colour gradations. The pictorial colour designations are intended to give an approximate idea of the colour tone, as the representation on the screen or in print can only approximate the real impression. All colours are therefore also available in 60 ml sample jars and are used to determine the colour tone on the basis of test coats on site, taking into account the specific lighting situation. They are not suitable for partially touching up already painted surfaces.

Cleaning and care
Light soiling is best removed with a dry, lint-free kitchen towel. Chalk paint is washable after 14 days at the latest. For areas that are exposed to heavy wear and tear, an additional sealant is recommended to protect the surface.
The painting utensils can simply be washed out with water. Leftover material can be disposed of in the household waste once it has dried out.
Application
The surface must be clean, dry, free of oil and grease, absorbent and stable. Remove unstable, flaking coats of paint. Wash off all distemper and chalking surfaces. New plasters must be completely dry for at least four weeks or fluorinated. Pre-treat critical and highly absorbent substrates with mineral primer.Apply a rich, even coat. On high-contrast, highly or differently absorbent substrates, a prior primer coat diluted with max. 10% water may be necessary. Stir the colour well before use. At 20°C and a relative humidity of 65%, the colour can be recoated after 4-6 hours. The paint can be applied by brush, roller or airless sprayer. Work slowly and patiently to avoid streaks.
When working with several paint containers, always ensure that the numbers are the same to avoid differences in colour or build-up. Do not process below +5 °C (applies to circulating air and substrate)!
