General product information

In the past, windows were simply locked, usually with small turning bolts, so-called sash locks, around the Biedemeier period. The bascule window lock, also known as the basquille or bascule gear, then developed into the standard window locking technology in the middle of the 19th century. This is a surface-mounted window gear with push rods. The advantage: the window could be opened and closed with a single rotary movement. This technology was the forerunner of today's internal window gear.

Technique
Bascule window drives are push bar locks: The push rods are moved up and down simultaneously via the gear body using the turning handle, known as the olive. The push rods are held at both ends by so-called end guides. These are attached to the window sash. Basquill screws or end caps are screwed onto the window frame, into which the push rods are inserted at the top and bottom when closing. An additional locking point for gearboxes with a locking tongue (=rotating bolt) is the catch hook into which the bolt engages when turning. The window therefore has three locking points.
Stylistic features
Like so many technical details in earlier times, bascule locks were also designed and decorated more or less in keeping with the architectural style of the house.Suitability
Bascule locks are often used in the stylish renovation of old buildings. They can also be fitted to new windows without any problems.Technique
Note: If the length of a locking bar is more than 50 - 60 cm for large windows, it is recommended to install an additional centre guide. This must be ordered separately.Principle sketch right/left stop:

Installation instructions
The supplied half-round rod must be split, shortened to the lengths you require and hooked into the gearbox. The gearbox, guides and basquill screws are mounted by simply screwing them on. Depending on the overlap thickness of the window, the basquille screw must protrude more or less or the end cap must be slightly underlaid. All installation work should be carried out by a specialist. We accept no liability for damage caused by improper mounting.
Care instructions
Untreated iron can also develop flash rust indoors under certain circumstances. Simply brushing with steel wool and, if necessary, applying a linseed oil-based hard oil or wax to protect against this.Brass swivel olives will darken and become more irregular and vibrant in colour. The olive develops its own patina and approaches the look of original historical fittings. If you wish, you can polish the handle from time to time. We recommend Nevr Dull® polishing pad for this.
