Surface mounted

Surface installation means visible laying of cables, wires or pipes. They are laid either directly on the plaster on the wall or with bracket. When restoring old buildings you may find yourself in situations where flush-mounted fitting of outlets and switches is impossible or surface mounted devices are preferred for the sake of an authentic restoration. In untility rooms and cellars wiring is always visible. Nowadays surface mounted switches are used in living rooms as an element of design, e.g. in spacious lofts.

Materials and technique

The switches and outlets of this series come with a solid 2.5mm housing made of black Bakelite or white, light resistant thermoset respectively. Bakelite is the first, early plastic, characterized by its stability and temperature resistance. Duroplast features the same characteristics as the black Bakelite. The inner part of the switches consists of a high-grade jumper. Switches and outlets are crafted out of a single piece and ensure adequate protection from electric schocks for the protection of the underlying electrical contacts. The housing features predetermined breaking points on the side to put the cables through for on wall mounting. The backside of the housing is open, so that cable feed can also be made concealed.

Safety and fire prevention

All switches and outlets of this series comply with today's standards. They meet the strict safety requirements of the VDE. Important note: If these switches and outlets are intalled onto combustible surfaces, you have to install them properly on so called fire protection boards. These boards are not part of the standard product and must be ordered separately if needed.

Mounting instructions

The inner part is screwed together with the base by means of 2 screws, then the wiring is made and in a last step the case is put on and screwed together.
