Via rim locks and rim lock lever handles
Rim locks are the forerunners of the mortise locks commonly used today. In contrast to mortise locks, which are not visibly embedded in the door leaf, they are locks that are mounted on the door leaf. In the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods, these were designed as open locks in which the mechanism was visible. Later, the lock mechanism was concealed so that only a box attached to the door was visible. Rim lock handles are designed asymmetrically. On the lock side, the neck of the lever handle is provided with a trumpet-like widening, which provides more stability due to the enlarged support and covers the square hole. The counterpart has a lengthy guide neck that is guided through a rose on the side facing away from the lock and stops on the inside of the rim lock.

Door thickness
The rim lock lever handles are supplied as standard for a door thickness of 36 - 40 mm. Larger door thicknesses are possible - please specify when ordering. Door thickness options
In southern Germany, flush-mounted iron plates are usually used on the side facing away from the lock. A guide escutcheon is screwed or riveted onto these. Guide rosettes and inlet plates are not included in the scope of delivery and must be ordered separately.Spindle thicknesses
We supply rim lock handles with a spindle thickness of 8 mm - the spindle thickness of historical locks may vary. The difference can be compensated for with push-on sleeves or inserted metal strips.Surface finishes
- Brass polished, unlacquered, slightly pre-patinated - gold-coloured - will darken, become slightly duller and more irregular
- Brass shiny nickel-plated - shiny silver-coloured - may become slightly darker
- Brass brushed, matt nickel-plated - matt silver-coloured with a slight brushed texture - may become slightly darker
Customised designs
We can also have them manufactured according to your own designs. We will be happy to provide you with a customised quotation. We require an original model from you for the recasting. We would like to point out that recastings may vary in size by 2-3 % due to casting shrinkage.

Assembly instructions
The mounting of box lock lever handles is not very complex: The lever handle part with the spindle is inserted through the rose on the side facing away from the lock, through the door leaf and through the lock. On the lock side, the counterpart is pushed onto the protruding spindle and secured with a grub screw. All installation work should be carried out and checked by a specialist or under their direction and supervision. We accept no liability for damage caused by improper mounting.
