Muslin glass, or Mousseline, is a glass with a transparent pattern on a frosted base. It was primarily used for entrance doors towards the end of the 19th century. It should let light shine in the hallway and at the same time not be completely transparent. Musline glass was first produced by means of etching with hydrofluoric acid; hence the synonymously used term etched glass. Nowadays the patterns are sandblasted using a special fine blasting technique.
Currently we offer 20 historical muslin glass patterns in different scales. To grasp the realistic proportions you can print the patterns 1:1.
Our standard realisation is 4mm Floatglas as panels in the indicated panel size. If desired we are happy produce the glas in different thicknesses; some patterns also in special sizes.
We offer muslin glass in the following variants:
We usually have panels of muslin glass in the variant floatglas 4mm in stock and they are shipable within one week. Minimum order quantity is half a panel (horizontally divided). We are happy to cut the glass to the desired size for a surcharge.
Glasses with different thickenesses, special sizes or other variants (ESG/VSG/ISO-Glas) are custom made according to your specifications. There is no minimum order quantity. The lead time is approximately 3 weeks.
Please consider a distance of 1-2mm to the frame on all sides when providing the glass dimensions. When ordering Iso-glass, please indicate if the blasted side should be inward or outward.Delivery is made in made to measure wooden crates. Cuts may be shipped with parcel services, bigger parts can only be transported safely with a forwarding agency. We are happy to find out the cheapest means of delivery for you.
The frosted side of the glass is the more eye-catching side. One could also call it the "front side". This side is usually inserted facing outward.
Due to the production method the frosted side of the muslin glass has a roughened surface. Please do not use glass cleaner. Clean with diluted spirit and a soft microfiber cloth. You can also achieve good cleaning results with flour or fine sawdust.
