Window catches

These window catches are made of solid brass, a copper-zinc-alloy. They are produced in our own foundry, using the traditional technique of sand casting. The window catches can be used for all modern tilt-and-turn-windows. But, they don't have a detectable mechanical latching, meaning they snap into place at 90° or 180° neither tangible nor audible. The use of a window catch without detectable latching is simply a matter of getting used to not a matter of necessity. With big or heavy casement windows one should maybe favour so called half handles, as they exert greater leverage.

Available finishes

• polished brass, non lacquered – gold-coloured - going to get darker, become more irregular and dull
• brass, shiny nickel-plated - shiny silver-coloured - may get a little darker
• brass, satin nickel-plated - dim silver-coloured - may get a little darker

Custom-made products

If desired, we produce different baseplates and roses on request. We are happy to make an offer for the reproduction of your own window catch. In order to make a quotation, we need a photo of the catch with measurements. For production we need the original window catch as cast pattern. We like to point out that reproductions might vary around 2-3% in size due to cast shrinkage.

Optional accessories

If you need a cover for a fanlight or a casement that is usually not opened, we also offer the baseplates of the window catches as so called "blind-roses". These have a hanging lid that can be shifted vertically or horizontally, in order to be able to open the window with a square key if necessary. The threaded screws can be reinforced by so called cams. The cams are also made of brass. They are available in 2 diameters. Please order additionally.

Screws

In general the window handles are delivered with metric screws M5x35mm. Kindly let us know, if you wish to receive wood screws.

Delivery time

Usually we have small quantities in stock (finish polished, slightly patinated). Please consider a lead time of 8 weeks for larger quantities.

Mounting instructions

The mounting of window catches or handles is effortless: The handle is put into the square hole; the rose is fastened with the screws. If the square spindle is too long, it can easily be cut. Mounting must only be carried out by a qualified specialist. We cannot accept any liability for damages due to incorrect mounting.

Care instructions

Brass lives! We always deliver brass fittings non lacquered. The surface is going to get darker, become more irregular and the colouration is going to be livelier. The window fitting will form a patina and converge to the look and feel of original historic fittings. If desired you may clean the mount. We recommend the polishing wool “Nevr Dull”®. Nickel-plated surfaces are sensitive to acid. They should be cleaned only with mild detergents and a soft cloth.
