This mechanical twist door bell does not recquire electricity. The bell consists of a decently designed rose, that is fastened on the outside of the door and a bell for the inside. The elements are connected by a square spindle. The clapper inside the bells hits the bell cover upon slight rotary movement. The characteristic €ting-a-ling€ sound, similar to a bicycle bell, is loud enough to be heard everywhere in the house or flat.
The bell-rose is made of massive, non-lacquered brass. They are produced in a small brass foundry according to our original template, using the sand-casting technique. The rotary knob is permanently fixed with the rose. The bells are made of brass-plated iron sheets. The bell cover can be unscrewed easily. Underneath the cover the mechanical system that moves the clapper becomes visible. The square spindle that connects the two parts has a length of 100mm. It is fastened with a mud screw on the rotary knob and is put in a deepening on the rear side of the bell. The square spindle must be shortened at place, according to the thickness of your door.
Available finishes bell rose
Usually we have small quantities in stock (finish polished, unlaquered and satin nickel plated). Please consider a lead time of 8 weeks for order related production.

Drill a 4mm hole through your door. Care must be taken to ensure that the hole is drilled straight. The square spindle is fastened on the rose with an allen key, the rose is put through the hole from the outside of the door and is screwed on the door. Now remove the cover of the bell. The base of the bell is mounted on the inside of the door on the square spindle. Now you can measure the distance and determine the necessary length of the square spindle. Shorten the square spindle accordingly. When the length is correct, the bell base is simply fastened with screws and the bell cover is screwed back on, on the inside. Mounting must only be carried out by a qualified specialist. We cannot accept any liability for damages due to incorrect mounting.
Brass lives! The non lacquered variant of the brass rose for the bell is going to get darker, become more irregular and the colouration is going to become livelier. It will develop its own patina and converge to the authentic look and feel of original historic parts. If desired you may refurbish the mount. We recommend the polishing wool €Nevr Dull€. Nickel-plated surfaces are sensitive to acid. They should be cleaned only with mild detergents and a soft cloth.
