Entrance door fittings made of brass

Our entrance door fittings are made of solid brass, a copper-zinc-alloy. They are manufactured in our own foundry using the traditional technique of sand casting. These entrance door fittings are reproduced according to our original modells and patterns.

Lever-handle-set / Pull-handle-set

This pull-handle-set is designes as a combination of a fixed pull-handle on the outside of the door and a moveable lever on the inside. The lever is connected to the lock by a rotatable half spindle. With this kind of door fitting, the door can be opened from outside only with the key. The pull handle is cranked, i.e. angled sidewards, so that this fitting can also be used on narrow door frames. This fitting can be produced as lever set. With this variant you can open the door from inside and outside using the lever.

Distance dimensions / Profile cylinder punch hole

The lock plates or roses for entrance door fittings are delivered with a punch hole for profile cylinders (abbr. PC) for mortice locks. The lock plate has a hole for the knob, or lever respectively, and a hole for the profile cylinder. Two standard distance dimensions apply in Germany: PC 92mm and PC 72mm – measured from center lever hole to center of the round part of the hole for the profile cylinder. Unless stated otherwise we deliver our entrance door fittings with distance dimension PC 92mm Apartment doors often have locks with a distance of PC 72. Please check before placing orders. Older locks often have different dimensions – other countries have different standard dimensions. If you decide to have a fitting with rose the distance dimension is irrelevant. Production of door fittings with round cylinders is also done on request.

Switch spindle/Square spindle

Pull-handle sets are delivered with a switch spindle with plate for "through panel" mounting - 8mm square spindle with top case for size 10 socket, galvanized iron, slitted on both sides, length 70mm. Please let us know if your door has a punch hole on one side only. In this case we will deliver a clamp switch spindle 10/8 (size 10 socket, reduced to 8 mm), galvanized iron, length 70mm.

Door hinge DIN left/DIN right

It is necessary to state the door hinge before placing orders, to ascertain that the door lever and pull handle show can be installed correctly. The door hinge for doors that open inward are denominated as follows:

• standing on the inside of the door, pulling the door towards oneself, the door is fixed on the left side of the frame = Door hinge DIN left
• standing on the inside of the door, pulling the door towards oneself, the door is fixed on the right side of the frame = Door hinge DIN right

Available finishes

This door fitting is available with the following finishes:

• Polished brass, non lacquered, slighty pre-patinized – gold-coloured – going to get darker, become more irregular and dull
• brass, shiny nickel-plated – shiny silver-coloured – may get a little darker
• brass, satin nickel-plated – dim silver-coloured - may get a little darker

Mounting and safety

The historical look-and-feel of our entrance door sets is primary. Therefore these fittings are not certified safety door sets. All fittings have threaded sleeves that are soldered on the outside latch or rose respectively, thus installation is made through the door. The fitting cannot be unscrewed from the outside. The visible drill holes are for additional fastening with wood screws. We produce certain fittings with a 10mm outside plate, on request (available at extra cost).

Scope of delivery

Product content consists of:

• 1 lever
• 1 plate with pull handle for the outside
• 1 plate for the inside
• 1 switch spindle 8710 mm for "through panel" mounting/alternatively a clamp switch spindle
• M5-thread screws for mounting through the door and additional wood screws (pan head screws) for fixing of the plates of roses

We only have small quantities of some versions of these door fittings in stock. Please consider a lead time of 4 weeks for order related production.

Instructions for mounting

Mounting must only be carried out by a qualified specialist (carpenter). He has the tools and knowledge to mount the door fitting effortless. We cannot accept any liability for damages due to incorrect mounting. If you decide to mount the fitting by yourself we like to offer some useful advise: The mounting of entrance door fittings requires precise workmanship: The door must be drilled through in specified intervals, in order to be able to push through the threaded screws. The square spindle is pushed through the door from the outside. (The clamp switch spindle is pushed through from the inside and is fastend with a small grub screw on the inside of the spindle at the lock). The cylinder is put in his place and the plates are put on the door on both sides and are loosely screwed together with the threaded screws. The lever is put on the square spindle and is connected with the square spindle using a grub screw. If the screws or the square spindle are too long they can easily be cut to the right length using a metal saw. If the plates are aligned precisely, the screws can be fixed firmly. The plates are fixed with wood screws on the door leaf.

Care instructions

Brass lives! We always deliver brass fittings non lacquered. The surface is going to get darker, become more irregular and the colouration is going to become livelier. The door fitting will develop its own patina and converge to the look and feel of original historic fittings. If desired you may refurbish the mount. We recommend the polishing wool “Nevr Dullâ€�®. Nickel-plated surfaces are sensitive to acid. They should be cleaned only with mild detergents and a soft cloth.
