Along with the fast urban development at the end of the 19th century, water pipes were laid to residential houses and bit by bit, almost every house was supplied. Nevertheless, a private bathroom with luxurious porcelain bathtub was reserved for only a few privileged social classes for a long time. Personal hygiene was mostly carried out at crowded washing troughs. At the turn of the centuries, cheaper bathtubs made of cast-iron could get manufactured industrially and were gradually spread.
Till the 1950's the freestanding oval cast-iron tub remained the epitome of private bathing culture. Throughout the following years this kind of tub was replaced by simple, functional built-in-bathtubs made of sheet steel. Nowadays the cast-iron tub can again be found in our bathrooms as a special design element.
Our bathtubs are manufactured in a small iron foundry in Portugal. High-heated, liquid iron is poured into a mould and while it is still in the red-hot state it is coated with a thick enamel layer on the inside. The bathtub is thick-walled (ca.1cm) and of heavy quality respectively.
A drain set is not part of the scope of delivery and must be ordered separately (see section "Accessories"). A selection of fittings for wall mounting or for free-standing use can be found in the section "Matching items".
Bathtubs are shipped on pallets to the desired shipping address (kerbside). Shipping costs upon request. Shipping costs on request.
Enamel is a dense material on which no visible deposits will form. Nevertheless, the tub should get cleaned regularly. Do not use wire wool, wire brushes or scrubbing sponges. For regular cleaning we recommend a damp cloth and some neutral soap.
Avoid abrassives or sand containing cleaning agents as these will roughen the surface. Many customary sanitary cleaners contain strong acids to remove limescale. Enamel is not resistant to acid. If you use acidic cleaners regularly you will damage the enamel surface: The surface becomes dull. We recommend to avoid contact with products that contain hydrogen peroxide (e.g. hair dye/bleach) or aggressive chemicals and cosmetics (like nail polish remover).
If the bathtub is dirty due to insufficient maintenance we advise you to use special enamel-cleaners that will not damage the surface.Enamel is an extremely robust and resistant surface. Should you still incur small damages because of mishaps, you can fix them selectively: Scratches are treated with a metall polish or car polish, that is worked in with circular movements. Smaller areas of spalling can be removed with a special repair paste for enamel. Please adhere to the manufacturers instructions.
