Muslin glass - filigree elegance with historical tradition

Muslin glass is a unique glass with delicate, transparent patterns on a frosted background. Originally developed in France in the mid-19th century, delicate muslin fabrics and lace were used as a pattern for the designs. The so-called ‘mousseline glass’ quickly became very popular throughout Europe. In the past, the patterns were created by etching with hydrofluoric acid, which earned the glass the synonymous term ‘etched glass’. Nowadays, the glass is refined using a special fine blasting process that enables a particularly precise satin finish.

Thanks to its historical charm and elegant appearance, muslin glass is ideal as restoration glass in listed buildings. It is often used in front doors, stairwell windows or vestibule doors and is also very popular in flat entrance doors. Muslin glass brings light into darker rooms without allowing direct light through, creating a friendly and inviting atmosphere.

We stock muslin glass as standard in the 4 mm thick float glass version as sheet glass in various sheet sizes. We can also offer you precise cut-to-size sheets on request. For special requirements, muslin glass is also available as ESG (toughened safety glass), VSG (laminated safety glass) or insulating glass.

Customised products, for example in other thicknesses or for specific patterns, are also possible. Feel free to contact us to discuss your wishes and projects - we will advise you personally and create customised solutions
