Surface mounting
Surface mounting refers to the visible laying of cables, wires or pipes. These are laid directly or with spacer clips over the plaster on the wall. In the renovation of old buildings, there are often situations where it is not possible to flush-mount switches and sockets or where surface-mounted switches are used for the sake of authentic restoration. In utility rooms and basements, cables are generally still laid visibly. Today, surface-mounted switches are also being used again in living areas, e.g. in spacious lofts, as a design feature.

Material and construction
Switches and sockets in this surface-mounted series have a sturdy, 2.5 mm thick housing made of black Bakelite or white, light-resistant thermoset plastic. Bakelite is the first early plastic characterised by its particular strength and temperature resistance. Duroplast has the same material properties as black Bakelite. The inside of the switches consists of a high-quality ceramic moulding. Switches and sockets are manufactured in one piece and ensure sufficient impact resistance to protect the electrical contacts underneath. For cable entry in surface-mounted installations, the enclosures have knock-out points on the sides with predetermined breaking lines. The rear of the housing is open so that the cable can also be fed in under plaster. Safety and fire protection
All switches and sockets in this surface-mounted series comply with current standards. They fulfil the strict VDE safety regulations. Important note: If switches and sockets are to be installed on a flammable surface, they must be mounted on so-called fire protection plates in accordance with the regulations. In addition to wood, combustible substrates include plasterboard, gypsum fibreboard, wood wool lightweight boards and synthetic resin plaster. The fire protection plates are not included in the scope of delivery and must be ordered separately if required for the surface-mounted switches and sockets in the Bakelite or DUROPLAST socket series.Accessories
