What is a window handle?
These window handles, both cross-shaped and half handles, are often simply called window handles. They are made of solid brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, and are manufactured in our foundry using the traditional handcrafted sand casting process. The window handles can easily be used for today's tilt and turn casement windows. However, they do not have a locking mechanism, i.e. they do not engage audibly or perceptibly at 90° or 180°. Using a window handle without latching is merely a matter of habit and not an absolute necessity.
Because of their better leverage, so-called half handles may be preferable for large or heavy casement windows.

Surfaces
- Brass polished, unlacquered - gold-coloured - will darken, become slightly duller and more irregular
- Brass shiny nickel-plated - shiny silver-coloured - may become slightly darker
- Brass matt nickel-plated - matt silver-coloured - may become slightly darker
Distance Drill holes
The distance between the drill holes corresponds to the standard of 43 mm common in Germany and Europe.
Spindle
The window handles usually have a loose spindle with a diameter of 7 mm and a standard length of +/- 35 mm. The spindle can easily be shortened with a hacksaw. If you require a longer spindle, this can be supplied made to measure (at an extra charge) in the desired length.Rosette variants
We offer these window handles with 2 different rosette sizes. Unless otherwise specified, we supply the window handles swivelling and fixed to the larger rose. The dimensions of this rosette are designed to cover the standard drill holes in today's window frames. The smaller, more delicate rose can be used if there are no drill holes and the window handle can be screwed directly onto the wood.Fixing screws
The window handles are usually supplied with metric M5 x 35 mm screws. If you require screws with a wood thread, please let us know.
Customised products
If you require a different base plate or rose, this can be manufactured on request. We will be happy to provide you with a customised quote for a special reproduction of your own window handle. To prepare a quotation, we first need a photo from you with approximate dimensions, and then the model as a casting template for recasting. We would like to point out that recasts may vary in size by 2-3 % due to casting shrinkage.Optional accessories
If you would like covers for a fanlight or a window sash that is not usually opened, we can also offer you the base plates of the olives as so-called "blind rosettes". These have a sliding horizontal or sliding vertical hanging clip so that the window can be opened with a square spanner if required. The threaded screws can be additionally reinforced with so-called "cams" (on request).

Care instructions
Brass is alive! We always deliver brass fittings unlacquered. The surface will darken slightly and become more irregular and vibrant in colour. The hardware develops its own patina and approaches the appearance of original historical hardware. If you wish, you can polish the sliding door shell from time to time. We recommend the polishing pad Nevr Dull® for this purpose. Nickel-plated surfaces are sensitive to acids. They should only be cleaned with a mild detergent and a soft cloth.
Mounting instructions
Mounting window handles or window handles is not very complicated: The olive is inserted into the square hole provided and the rose is mounted with the screws. If the spindle is too long, it can simply be shortened. All installation work should be carried out by a specialist. We accept no liability for damage caused by improper mounting.
