General product information
- These heavy cast iron fittings are manufactured using the elaborate lost wax process. This requires a metal mould for an original wax part, which is melted out, and a ceramic mould for the molten metal. This gives the fittings a very fine appearance and precise lines in the ornamentation. Most of the original historical moulds come from our collection. They are recreated in an iron foundry in eastern Germany.

Surface finish
This cast iron door set has a brushed surface with a hot wax finish. The waxed surface does not offer absolute rust protection. The fittings will therefore rust - especially in installation situations that are heavily exposed to the weather. To protect the cast iron surface, it should be maintained from time to time with the maintenance wax supplied. Any rust film can be sanded away with a fine steel wool and then treated with wax. The wax should be heated in a water bath and then applied with a brush.
Cast iron can also react with certain types of wood that contain tannic acids, e.g. oak or sweet chestnut. In heavily weathered installation situations, irreversible discolouration can occur.
Knob/handle-set
Today, entrance door fittings are usually designed as knob/handle-sets. A knob/handle-set refers to the combination of a stationary knob on the outside and a moving handle on the inside of the door. The knob and lever handle are connected by a rotatable knob/lever spindle. You simply pull the door shut behind you and it can only be opened from the outside with the key.Mounting and security
The historical appearance of our entrance door fittings takes centre stage. They are therefore not tested security fittings. However, all fittings have threaded sleeves soldered to the outer plate or outer rosettes so that mounting is done through the door. The set cannot simply be unscrewed from the outside. The visible screw holes are intended for additional mounting using wood screws and also have a design function.Distance / euro profile cylinder perforation
Entrance door fittings are supplied with euro profile cylinder perforations (abbreviation: PZ) for mortise locks as standard. The door plates have a perforation for the knob or lever handle and a perforation for the profile cylinder. We only supply this door set with the standard PZ92 distance for front door locks, measured from the centre of the handle hole to the centre of the round part of the cylinder hole.Door thickness / spindle
Knob/handle-sets have a rotatable knob that is screwed into the M10 thread of the knob. The pin has a thickness of 8 mm and is supplied with an additional sleeve for a 10 mm lock follower. This allows the delicate shape of the lever handle to be preserved in accordance with its historical model.
The set is supplied with a knob/lever spindle for a standard door thickness of 68 mm.

Care instructions
Cast iron door fittings with a waxed surface will rust over time. To protect them, the fittings should be treated from time to time with the enclosed care wax. Rust film can be sanded away with a fine steel wool and then treated with wax. The wax should be heated in a water bath and applied with a brush.
